We are a local company in Westwood, that provides temporary housing service to Americans and Internationals. And we are proud of being local and global at the same time!
As an international student myself, I'm pretty familiar with the anxiety that's attached to moving to a new country. On March 2010, when I first moved to Los Angeles, finding a proper place to stay was my #1 priority. My "home" is where I charge and define myself. Without a home, I feel like a plant without a root.
I was so lucky to find Zuma Housing at that early stage, which helped me transit to a brand new life very smoothly. Now, 2.5 years later, as the Housing Director of Zuma Housing, I'm contributing to this blog, in order to help other newcomers transit to a new and exciting life in Westwood.
Every week, I will be sharing my personal observations about living in Westwood.
Today topic is: Traffic&Parking Problem in Westwood!
I know it would be a better idea to start with something positive about Westwood. But, dear reader, I want to be honest with you: Traffic, especially at lunch time, is unbearable here. I know, by driving a car, I'm also a part of the problem, and complaining doesn't solve anything. However, I would advise for the newcomers not to drive their cars in Westwood, and consider other options like bikes or scooters to go around or shop in the area.
Here is me with my scooter on the way to UCLA.
Believe me, it's much easier to find parking for your scooter in that vast school. And guess what: it's free!
You can easily park your scooter right next to your classroom, while everybody else parks their car in parking lots which are usually 10-15 mins away from the classrooms and pays hundreds of dollars monthly.
Yes, when you have a scooter or a bike, you can save A LOT of money. I was paying $5 gas per week(!), I really miss those days...
Well, I guess there were times, when traffic&parking was not an issue at all :)
Look at that picture that I came across at http://yesterdayla.com/westwood-village/
It's Westwood in mid-1930's
Next week on Monday, I'll be continuing with "Living in Westwood" series.
Until then take care...
